Culture and Citizenship in Québec
Quebec has introduced a new program called Culture and Citizenship that will replace the Ethics and Religious culture program.
The Culture and Citizenship in Québec (CCQ) program was piloted in two of SWLSB schools in 2022-2023. It was then introduced in 12 of our schools in 2023-2024 on an optional basis. The program is now mandatory in all schools.

Some Important Definitions
Culture refers to the collective beliefs, customs, and behaviors of a particular group or society. It includes things like language, art, music, food, and religious practices. Culture shapes how people interact with one another and understand the world around them.
Program Objectives
There are three objectives:
Prepare students to exercise citizenship in Québec
Help students learn to recognize themselves and others
Pursue the common good
NOTE: The program has one main goal: prepare students to exercise citizenship in Quebec. The other two goals are meant to support the achievement of the main goal.
